Dance Program

The Children’s Division is a great place to begin your child’s dance experience. Dancers participate in weekly dance classes learning fundamental dance steps and choreography.  Dancers are taught appropriate dance class etiquette and encouraged to express themselves through movement. Dancers in the Creative Ballet & Tap level and higher have the opportunity to participate in our December and June performances. Dancers may progress through the levels or begin in the age appropriate class. Dancers may not enroll in classes that CDT faculty find unsuitable. To be in the Taste of the Nutcracker, you must be enrolled by November 1st and the end of March for the Petite Feet Performance. Enrollment is not accepted after April 1st.

The School Division marks the beginning of your child’s formal dance training in either ballet, jazz or tap.  Lyrical, hip-hop and modern dance styles are also offered, depending on studio and teacher availability.  Beginning in Level One at age 8, dancers will be promoted by the CDT faculty through Level Six. The number of classes per week will vary, depending on placement.  Placement is based on age, muscular strength, flexibility, alignment and development of a dancer’s technique.  Dancers may remain in the same level for more than one year.  Begining dancers may enroll in level one or classes indicated as begining. Dancer’s with previous training should call to arrange a placement class. Dance uniform required.
