Performances

Performance Policies

General:

  • All accounts must be current and have a zero balance by the last in-studio rehearsal in order for your child to perform.  No exceptions.
  • There is no food or drink allowed inside the theatres.
  • Only staff, teachers and parent volunteers are allowed in the green rooms and back stage area 15 minutes prior to the show beginning and through the end of the show.
  • Dancers should not wear nail polish, jewelry or underwear with their costumes.

Video and Pictures: Absolutely no flash photography is allowed in the theatre. Please be courteous to our performers and audience members and turn off your flash. Parents are welcome to videotape the performance from their seat. There is a professional videographer  for those wishing to purchase the show dvd. Please be considerate of the other audience members by keeping their view and the aisles clear.

Tickets: Tickets are $8 pre-sale and $10 at the door, children 3 and under do not need a ticket as long as they are sitting on a lap. Tickets are available for participants families two weeks prior to the show date.  CDT reserves the right to limit ticket purchase per familyduring the first week of ticket sales, to ensure that all dancers immediate families may attend. Tickets will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis to participants and the general public one week prior to the show date. Tickets may be purchased at CDT or over the phone with a Visa or Mastercard. Phone purchases will be available for pick up at Will-Call.  Tickets sold at the door are cash only.

Performance Hair:All classes should have their hair in the appropriate style per their teacher’s instructions. All hair accessories (bows, feathers, and flowers, etc.) should be fastened to the right side of the dancer’s head. All hair accessories must be secured with at least five bobby pins. Make sure to use a fine tooth comb to make hair smooth and “bumpie” free. All dancers must use gel and hairspray to make their hair manageable, secure and to prevent “fly-aways” or “whispies”. As always, help will be available the day of the performance as needed.

  • Buns: Should be located just behind the crown of the head. Do NOT place the bun directly on the top of the head. Another rule of thumb, is that it is not a good bun unless it has at least 10 bobby pins. Make sure the bobby pins are secured to the scalp as well as the bun. All dancers with buns must have a hair net (matching their hair color), which can be purchased at your local Wal-Mart, Rite-Aid or other retailer.
  • Low Bun: This bun is placed at the base of the skull and seen in many ballets such as Giselle and Les Sylphides.
  • Double Buns: These are two buns located on either side of the head. Make pig tails and then create two buns.
  • Princess style: Also referred to as a half pony. Pull the sides and top sections of the hair back into a pony tail.

Performance Make-up: In the spirit of performing, every dancer is highly encouraged to look their best and apply age-appropriate “Heavy Street Make Up.” Dancers should have powder, blush, red lipstick, (a red lip liner may be enough and won’t run) brown eye shadow, and mascara. (body/face glitter is optional) No need to buy expensive make-up; Wet and Wild works great! Please keep in mind the age of your dancer.  We want your five year old to still look five on stage. Make-up is encouraged so that the audience can still see the dancer’s features under the bright stage lights.

The Performance: Dancers should arrive in appropriate hair, make-up, and costume 30 minutes prior to the start of the show and check in at the green room. Please have one parent escort the dancers to the “green room” and get them settled.  Make sure to label all clothing, shoes, and other items.  Children’s Dance Theater cannot be held responsible for lost, misplaced, or stolen items.  Parents are asked to take their seats 15 minutes before the curtain.  Please make sure to prepare your dancer for this.  Please sit back and enjoy the show.  The program is very short but enjoyable.  After the entire cast Finale, the dancers will be escorted back into the “green room” for one parent to pick up and sign out their child.  It is a common tradition for friends and family to bring their performer flowers to show their support after the performance.  Dancers are always touched and excited by this presentation.

Concessions: Children’s Dance Theater sells concessions after each show as a tribute to Mara Adams, a CDT dancer who lost her battle with DIPG, a rare pediatric form of brain cancer which only effects children.  The funds from these sales are donated to a charity chosen by the Adams family.

This December at The Taste of the Nutcracker, CDT raised $612 dollars to be donated to Make-a-wish.org. Below is a photo of Mara (in the middle)and her family taken by Souluminations.

2008/2009 – $900 was raised for Souluminations.
